A room I am happy to say is complete! The other rooms all had something I wish I could have gotten to before sharing photos, but this one is done. I may add a chair once all the leftover furniture stockpile settles, and it would obviously need to be refinished if I do take one of our old chairs, but for now I'm so happy with how it turned out.
Mom and I made the curtains out of what I seriously think is the prettiest fabric I've ever seen. It should be because it's the most expensive fabric I've ever purchased at $45/yard and 100% cotton. I can understand difficult weaves and natural leather hides costing a lot of money, but it's just cotton! Naturally I shopped around online and got a coupon etc etc etc, but it's really really beautiful fabric that photos do no justice. We also lined the drapes with blackout lining and they feel SO luxurious. I liked the room when it was drapes alone - no bed! It's one of the brightest and cheeriest rooms in the whole house!
We got the headboard kinda for free before our move. When we built our first house, mom and dad got us a gift card to Jordan's Furniture back in Boston, and it evidently got lost in the shuffle of all our construction paperwork, and when we were purging and packing to prep for our move to Texas, we found the gift card, and checked the balance and sure enough it was unused! We didn't want to buy something big that we'd have to move and store for a year, but a headboard seemed like a reasonable size, and it was neutral enough to go with almost any decorating whim I may be riding at the time.
The bedding is a new duvet set from Overstock. I had my heart set on the rosette quilts from Anthropologie, but just couldn't justify the cost with everything else going on. Also, none of their colors truly fit the bill. For anyone interested in this style, Pier1 has some gorgeous colors in a very similar style online called Savannah. In that case, there were 3 or 4 colors that were equally beautiful and I was hit was decision paralysis. I stumbled on this perfect shade of dusty lilac on Overstock and it turned out to be perfect, and the quality is really really nice, which kind of surprised me on my first bedding purchase from Overstock. And this too, was kind of free because I had a store credit from the master bedroom nightstand debacle. Oh, I should mention, this is a King size bedding set for a Queen size bed, so I had to run a stitch down both sides of the shams to convert them to standard size. 5 minute project for the oversized bedding look!
You have seen my nightstand makeover already.
The lamps used to be in our master bedroom.
And the silhouettes ("sillywets" as the nugget calls them) are new, and obviously a DIY project. I made one of the nugget around 18 months old in our last house, and I started making the doodle's and realized with her big hair sprout the size was going to be off, so I took the opportunity to make his bigger and give them both the same pattern backing paper, frames etc. so they match. I wasn't sure where to put the silhouettes in this house and am glad they landed in here. To make these silhouettes, I just took a photo of the kids from the side making sure all their cute little features and eyelashes were angled just right in the shot. Then I scaled it to the size I wanted, printed it out, traced it onto black paper and cut it out very slowly and carefully and then glued to pretty backing paper and framed them. You guys are spoiled, by the way! There are bloggers out there, MUCH MUCH better bloggers than I, who would devote an entire blog post to making a silhouette frame. And when things settle down, maybe I'll get back to that level of detail, but for now, you just wanna see the house right? :)
So here's the guest bedroom. I hope it entices you all to come pay us a visit!
GUEST BATHROOM:
There are only a couple photos because how many angles can you get on a normal bathroom... but here's the guest bathroom all finished as well. Well, you know, my version of finished. As in, I'd still like something to hang on the wall above the toilet. :)
Another room tomorrow night if all goes well! Stay tuned. :)
