Plumbing/Electrical/Miscellaneous Update

This phase is a lot more exciting in person than the pictures convey, but this is the last update before our framing walk-through with our builder where we approve or request changes on all the stuff INSIDE the walls.  After that, the sheetrock is the next milestone!!  woohoo!  Pics after the jump.

These were taken today after the electricians finished and tidied up!

Isn't the fireplace pretty?!  I love how it sits up a bit higher than our last house.

Lots of "stuff" on this wall - plumbing and electrical galore!




There were lots of other decisions/discussions etc going on over the past week.

We approved our custom front door design!



We got a look at our preliminary cabinet plans... here is just a snippet of the kitchen plan:


We signed off on all the appliances we picked out what feels like eons ago!

And I started making purchases again!!  So far we've bought:

* Pendant lights for over the kitchen island
* Chandelier for dining room
* Artwork for the living room fireplace
* Bedding for the nugget's "big boy bedroom" 
* Bar stools for kitchen island - 25% off at Ballard Designs this weekend!!!  Couldn't resist.
* Shower curtain which is my inspiration for the guest bathroom - random I know!

Plus, I don't think I've mentioned this broadly, but we ordered our sofas for the living room over Labor day weekend! 

Sadly, this is only making a small dent.  

I'm not sure I'll have another update until the sheetrock is up.  I'm hopeful that's sooner than later!  Until then... I guess I'll get back to giving our credit card a good workout.  :)

It's been a while since I've posted pictures of house progress, so get cozy - this is a long one! It's been a bi-polar month.  Generally if you had asked me how things are going any Friday in the past month I'd gush about all the activity going on at the house.  Our construction manager tends to schedule a lot of trades all at once on Fridays, and since we have a recurring lunchtime meeting with him every Friday, we've gotten to see the flurry of trades rolling in.  It's VERY VERY exciting to see this many trucks parked in your backyard, and as many in the front! The problem is - you know where I'm going with this - is if you asked me any other day of the week I'd be discouraged that nobody has showed up for days, and the concrete that was supposed to be poured a week ago still isn't poured... the plumbers were supposed to be here everyday last week and still haven't shown up.  A team of 20 guys show up to do the til...

WOW! Too much progress to cram into a clever headline!

First of all, Happy New Year!! I'll be honest, it's not my favorite holiday. New Year's Eve always makes me a little sad. While others are out celebrating over bubbly, I'm usually feeling anxious about another year gone by, being another year older, the KIDS being another year older etc.  It's terrible to live with all this angst!  And while that was still true this year, I can't deny we had an amazing year of major life changes - a healthier lifestyle for sure with major weight loss, packing up and moving across country, enabling our kids to spend everyday with their mammy who loves them more than the air she breathes... and we have another amazing year to look forward to in 2014 with the completion of our new home! My first DIY upholstery project, and I lived to tell about it!

It's going to be a couple more weeks before we have any juicy construction updates for you.  Currently there are a whole bunch of inspections lined up for this week, and the polyseal spray foam is going in, then insulation, but none of those are exciting photos.  So, I thought a little bragging might entertain you in the meantime. This chair is by no means perfect.  It was intended to be my "learning chair" but I fell in love with the shape, and then I fell in love with the fabric so I was hoping I could get it to turn out ok.  I bought it to go in Nugget's new big boy bedroom at the new house, and I'm so so happy with the outcome.  I did learn a lot and feel like I'll do even better on the next one, and believe me the projects are stacking up!  I've got at least 3 more upholstery projects lined up already, and then probably several more that I just haven't decided on. My biggest takeaway is that I'm not a seamstress and I will never be a seams...
